i have been slacking off all week especially on the photos and stuff.
sitting here bored on st pats wearing green getting ready to paint the town green. I figured i would recap the week.
i have been slacking all week! i still haven't even developed any of the 40 rolls of film from my
vietnam trip.
monday was the school thing with the magazine. dinner drinks
yada yada yada.
tuesday night had dinner with some of
tommy's ex-coworkers from this really important
chinese financial magazine. its funny
tommy started as an intern there and after a year apparently he was the man. for the first 6 months he lived in the editors house. after a few weeks noticing him constantly coming home around 1pm
after a night of drinking she realized he had upper
management potential. I guess they had him doing really important stuff. whenever we go over to the magazine for lunch the managing editor pulls tom into his office for a pow-wow and everyone treats him like a celebrity. crazy!
wednesday was kind of the an exciting night. me and the boys all had special dinners with special ladies that night. I have been spending a lot of time with a special young lady i met when i was here in may. we went out to some crazy noodle place then came back to watch little miss sunshine. Afterwards i walked her to a taxi and said good night around 11:30. then talked on my cell to
tommy he mentioned that he and nick were in a cab for
huxley's ( best bar in
beijing ). I jumped in a taxi and met them there. Randomly
huxley was there we had a few whiskey gingers and swapped stories.
tommy did the boldest thing i have ever heard of that night. ( cant post it sorry ). lets just say it was on par
with the boom box scene in "say anything" then
handjob rolled in bought some absinthe shots for all of us. we called it a night around 2.
It was one of the best nights I have had in
beijing.
thursday we swung by the magazine office again had lunch with more of his former coworkers. we ate at some
sichuan spicey resturant. had the pepper corn fish dish made from the numbing spice which is illegal in the state. ( i hear there is one shop in D.C. that has some black market peppercorn ) then back to the magazine office
tommy played celebrity then we went to head out and
tommy decided to swing by the
chinese sports illustrated office. of course
tommy is buddies
with the editor. he was a super nice guy.
tommy told him about our
vietnam trip and my photos. he then asked me if i would do some sports photography for sports illustrated.... i told him i never did that before... fuck. i should have said yes. i could have been a sports
photgrapher in china taking pictures of ping pong and shit. unfortunately if i had accepted the job it would have violated the whole no work for 1 year thing. not much
thurday night just had dinner and watched some of that
micheal palin's himalaya travel documentary series. its pretty
f'ing good.
friday was first day of class...major
suckage (read other post)
Then was the
pre st. pats
festivities me and
handjob got pimp ass matching green
Ferrari jackets. we came home enjoyed a few whiskeys with
tommy. then i met my special lady friend for dinner. we strolled down
dongzhimen nei had an amazing dinner of
peking duck and some drinks. ( for those back home i will let you know a fancy duck dinner for 2 with drinks only costs $8 ) afterwards we head back to my place and she helped me study my
chinese for a little while then we headed off to a st pats party
Cassey and her
roomates were throwing in the building next to ours. The party
uhm. Cassey is really cool but at the party was a
different crowd than i am used to. There was an unusually high collared shirt sweater vest count there. And i
don't think there were any
chinese people there in fact it think it was all-american. There are many different social circles of expats here in
beijing i tend to hang in a seedier internationally diverse crew of artists photographers and
alchoholics. this crew was
all ivy
leaguer overachievers here to study
chinese in
beijing before going back to study law/business/doctor type stuff. did i mention the
sweatervests? of course
tommy is a
stanford grad so he is the bridge to this scene. topics of conversations i heard... i wont even bore you by typing them. anyways party kind of sucked so
tommy,
handjob, my beautiful special
ladyfriend, and I all bailed for
nanjie to wash away the snobbery with some
tsing tsao's.
nanjie is
beijings version of that fucked up bar from star wars ( the one where Han shot first not the pussier digitally remasterd version ). It by chance is also part owned by
huxley from
huxley's ( greatest bar in
beijing ). any ways it was packed we had drinks with
huxley talked about movies and called it an early night around 2 and headed home. even though the party sucked
probably one of the best nights of my life.
now i am just chilling wearing some green watching
ricky bobby waiting for
tommy to get here so we can get our st.
patricks day on!
I am bringing my camera so i can get this blog multimedia again!
word.
