bing ji ling is chinese for ice cream. This is an pea flavored ice cream bar. The chinese also love themselves some red bean flavored ice cream!

and yes it completely tastes like vegetarians da bien.

can anyone guess what da bien translates to in english?

monday morning propaganda

This poster comes with a story from today. I have been reading this book that a guy wrote about his experiences living in china in the late 90's. He wrote about a tai chi movement that turned into a cult and was banned by the government. I won't write the name out of fear of censorship. Anyways I have a pretty good relationship with my chinese tutor so I asked her about this and her response was more than I expected. She hurriedly closed to door of the classroom all the way and told me to keep my voice down. she then told me that in america we are free to discuss anything and that was not the case in china. That this was a very bad group of people and the government stopped them for the safety of the people. She told me especially not to repeat the name tiananmen square.

I am rather inquisitive and have a big mouth. The is the first time it has frightened anyone.

The only other incident was when we were learning chinese names for countries which ended in a 10 minute lecture on how tibet is not a country.

bike pub crawl

This theoretically happened after josh & andy's party. everyone was he zui le ( chinese for drunk ). half the people were too drunk to make it and those who did only made it halfway. it took 4 hours to make it halfway. next time i will delegate organization to someone who is organized.

josh and andy bbq

killer party. Held 14 floors above the ground in a prime location of the 2nd ring road halway between dong si shitiao and jianguomen. from this height you could really get a feel for how much construction is happening before the olympics!
favorite thing about the party was not only did they have the forsight to fill a water cooler full of and especially delicious punch they also had a schwarr cook. genius.

more night holga stuff

I tried shooting more holga long exposure stuff at night in tiananmen. it was way brighter than i realized. I overexposed everything. when your light meter says 4 seconds dont expose for 1 minute! anyways these photos are not great but i thought i would throw them up here anyways to buffer the rest of beijing party pictures. I like the silhouette of the guard in the 2nd one and want to go back and try and shoot this again.

whatever bar

our buddy jackson was doing a guest bartending spot at this new bar named the whatever bar. Here is a photo of jackson and debauchery that ensued.

here are the swedes ( the ones who asked us not to kill them ). we hit nanjie for the all you can eat and drink for 50 kuai special! it got ugly..... again.

Here is my first published column. The column is a weekly english lnguage section of china daily post and targeted at college students. The paper Is read by around 250,000 people. I am pretty stoked about it. I have done 2 so far and tried to make them subtly subversive. The second article which will be published next week sucks. They liked the slang in the first on and want me to get howerd stern in the 3rd.

Over the weekend I was ill and it shows in the lack of power my calligraphy possesses!
the characters are:
ping = equal & balance
xin = heart & mind

these were done in the xiao zhuan style meaning little turn. this was the style used in the movie hero. which is fitting because the main purpose of my studying shu fa is so i can kick jet li's ASS!
